No disappointments!Reviewed by T. Spivey, 2010-03-08
I first saw Call of Duty 4 Modern Combat being played on a
Playstation 3 and was quite impressed. When I saw it was available
for my new iMac, I had serious doubts whether it would be worth the
money.
This game costs as much as a Playstation 3 game, but I decided to
take a gamble and bought it through Amazon. Consoles like the
Playstation and xBox are great graphically, because they are
dedicated machines. That's all they do. However, I've always
preferred gaming on a computer because I believe FPS (first person
shooters) feel more natural with the keyboard and mouse controls
than with the console's controller. And you can't beat a joystick
for driving or flying games/simulations.
Macs in the past were never touted as the greatest gaming machines.
But the fact that Apple has switched to Intel processors and that
this game is mentioned on their website ([...]) encouraged me to
take the plunge.
I've tried using the "Optimal System Settings" and also tried
maxing out the settings. I don't see much lag until I try going all
the way to 1920 x 1080 resolution. Backing off one notch to 1680 x
1050 does the trick. The game is beautifully done. To my surprise,
even the "Optimal" setting looks good and plays well! I'm using a
iMac 21.5 inch, 3 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with with the ATI Radeon HD
4670.
Gameplay is fun and plays like a movie. This game is fast and
responsive, with no long load times on my machine. Quick in, quick
out. I've yet to experience any crashes, freezes or other
problems.
Buy this game and support game development like this for the Mac!
Customer ServiceReviewed by Daniel Kim, 2010-02-11
Although it took a while for the package to arrive their customer service was sublime and a great help in rushing the order as soon as possible. The product was brand new and in great condition upon arrival. I will definitely buy from them again.
This is a riot!Reviewed by Austin Scott, 2010-01-07
To start, you need to know that I love first person shooter games.
The machine I run this game on, has the horse power to run it
beautifully. For those of you Mac fans wondering, yep, the minimum
requirements are just that. Minimum. However, on a MacPro sporting
twin 2.8GHz Intel Procs, with lots of RAM, (I have 10 GB. The game
box indicates a minimum of 1 GB. I am sure 2 GB would be plenty)
the game runs like a dream. The recommended System Requirements
indicate 2.4GHz and 256 MB of video RAM. This is a good guide line
if you want to see all the great graphics, hear everything, and
experience the game as it was meant to be experienced. However,
don't run away, if you have just the minimum. The game looks
awesome in the lower graphical settings as well. And it will play
smoothly as well. Without having to chase down power-ups, and crap
like that, this game just feels realistic! You learn to save your
ammo, by shooting in bursts. Sure, you have a lot of ammo, but
during a reload, you better take cover. It takes a moment to slam
in another cartridge, and in the heat of battle, it's faster to
just switch weapons. Reload after you are a safe distance from all
the lead coming at you. Sniper missions, and helicopter missions,
are two favorites. Patience pays off in spades during a sniper
mission. Pay attention to your computer generated partner during
these missions. There is so much more, but, never mind that! Buy
the game. It's awesome, just be sure you have the equipment to run
it. 5 stars for absolute fun.
Update!
(2/26/10)
This is even more fun online! But be prepared, those folks already
there, are ready and willing to take you down! A whole community
exists online for this platform. It's awesome, and so much fun!!
Too short!Reviewed by T. Bretas, 2009-12-24
I was playing this game, imagining the title of my Amazon review( it was going to be something like, "Better than you ever dreamed possible!") when the game suddenly ended and the credits began to roll. I was left in a state of shocked disbelief. Now I am sad. This is far and away the greatest video game I have ever played. It was very immersive and I love being drawn into, not just the excitement on the screen, but the drama of the story (like Halo for example). Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare delivers in spades. But I finished the game in about 5 hours! It's too short. I need more.
Whats the deal?Reviewed by M. Stevens, 2009-12-16
I see a lot of positive reviews on this game, and it worked well
enough on the P.C. version, but it is absolute garbage on my
Mac.
Mac Pro
Dual-Core Intel Xeon
2.66 GHz
5GB ram
Maybe I have something set wrong, but I tried various settings,
including setting everything to minimum(with 640 X 480 screen
resolution). For Most of the game it stutters and is really hard to
tell if your shooting or not.
There is one more thing. I forgot when I bought the Mac version
about this. I really do not want to sit for 5 min. waiting for the
"Movies" to play out, that is what DVD's are for. I buy video games
to play, not to watch. This game is riddled with them, so you just
sit there, or go get a cup of coffee while they are playing. It is
really irritating.
I really liked COD2, and the Mac version is great.
